WHAT WE DO

The Public Defender's Office for Montgomery County was established to protect and defend the rights of people who have been accused of committing various (misdemeanor and felony) crimes and who are unable to afford the cost of hiring an attorney on their own. Our client-centered representation begins at first appearance (within 72 hours of arrest), when a person charged has the first opportunity to be seen and heard before the court.  The clients we represent are supported by an adept interdisciplinary team of advocates, including lawyers, social workers, investigators, client advocates, and a team of support staff, who assist clients as they navigate through their criminal case.

Pretrial Alliance Montgomery

The Montgomery County Public Defender’s Office is a member of Pretrial Alliance Montgomery, a collaboration of justice system professionals and community, faith, and public health groups studying and identifying effective, research-informed improvements to our county’s pretrial system.
